Frequently Asked Questions

Can I equip my car myself when I’m ready to drive?
Following your examination if any equipment is recommended by the driving rehabilitation specialist only a certified NMEDA vendor will be able to install the equipment in the vehicle in order to ensure all safety regulations are met and followed.
Where will the exam be conducted?
Driving Fitness Evaluations is a unique comprehensive driving program that is completely mobile. DFE will be traveling to specific hospitals and clinics throughout Southern California helping to provide added convenience traveling to areas and roads you may be more familiar with. If however, you are not able to drive to these locations there may be accommodations afforded at an added cost which can be discussed further.
My family member recently had a stroke but I don’t know if they are safe to resume driving?
Have the licensee’s MD write a Prescription for a Driving Evaluation. We can then conduct further investigation with a thorough clinical evaluation followed by the behind the wheel evaluation if appropriate. The results will be discussed at the end of the evaluations to provide information regarding driving fitness.
Will my insurance cover the examination?

Majority of Insurances are not covering driving evaluations in California. You will be responsible prior to any DFE exam for the full payment of any services rendered. However, at DFE we are currently undergoing strategies in hopes to get portions of the examination covered. Will glady fill out any necessary forms provided by your insurance with appropriate CPT charge codes in hopes for service reimbursement. If that claim were to be accepted DFE will not accept assignment meaning if the claim were approved all credit will be sent directly to the insurance policy holder.
